Anti-vaccination movements are on the rise in parts of Malaysia, posing a serious threat to people's health and herd immunity. People of all ages have been affected by recent outbreaks of measles, one of the most well-known “eliminated” diseases that has resurfaced as a result of not meeting the Covid-19 vaccine vaccination requirement.
Many parents lack a basic understanding of how immunizations operate, as well as access to reliable information on the process's value. Furthermore, people who have the greatest need for vaccine information appear to be the most vulnerable to this information. In addition, we must vigorously oppose the false demonization of vaccinations on social media and in the news media.
A qualitative study that looked at how parents react to conflicting media messages on vaccination safety found that personal experiences, value systems, and faith in health experts are all important factors in parental immunisation decision-making.To combat the anti-vaccination movement, a strong emphasis must be placed on assisting parents in developing trust in health professionals and relevant authorities, educating them on facts and figures, debunking anti-vaccination myths, and even introducing legislation that promotes, if not mandates, vaccination.
